How Full-Ship Charters Work

The organizer books the whole ship — and that changes how you book.

Home › How Charters Work

A full-ship charter looks like a normal cruise from the outside. Inside, almost everything about how you book and what you get is different.

Who Does What

PartyResponsible for
The cruise lineThe ship, its crew, safety, dining, cabins, the itinerary and port operations.
The charter organizerSelling the cabins, setting fares and terms, booking the artists, and running the music program and events.
YouBooking through the organizer or its authorized agents, and following both the organizer’s terms and the cruise line’s rules on board.

This split matters. Your payment schedule, cancellation penalties and what happens if a performer cancels are set by the organizer’s terms, not the cruise line’s usual policies. Read them carefully before you pay a deposit.

What a Charter Fare Typically Covers

Usually included

Your cabin, the ship’s main dining and buffet, the concerts and many of the events the organizer runs.

Often extra

Drinks, specialty restaurants, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and spa, just as on a regular cruise.

Check each time

Gratuities, taxes and port fees, and any premium experiences such as photo opportunities.

Because the organizer buys the whole ship, charter fares are not set the same way as regular cruise fares, and the usual cruise line promotions generally do not apply. The organizer’s site is the only place to see the real price and what it includes.

Full-ship charters usually use a ship and itinerary the cruise line already operates — often a short Caribbean or Bahamas sailing from a Florida port — so the ship itself will feel familiar to regular cruisers.

Charter Questions

Can I book a charter cruise through my usual travel advisor?

Sometimes. Some organizers work with authorized agents; others sell only directly. Check the organizer’s official site to see how bookings are taken.

Do I still get cruise line perks or loyalty points?

Policies vary by organizer and cruise line. Some charters honor parts of the line’s loyalty program and others do not. Ask the organizer before you book if it matters to you.

What if an artist cancels?

Lineups on music cruises are usually subject to change, and the organizer’s terms explain what happens. Read them before paying, and consider travel insurance that suits your situation.

Arriving Early or Staying On?

Many charter guests add a pre-cruise night or a second cruise. Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise can quote a regular sailing before or after your charter.
